Working with Oxygen Absorbers

Each pouch or can needs to be sealed with an oxygen absorber inside. They come in a package of 100, so you may want to plan to share with someone. But they need to be handled with care or they will be ruined. Their job is to absorb the oxygen out of the air in the pouch or can, so that microbes cannot grow. They begin absorbing oxygen as soon as they come into contact with it, and as soon as they have absorbed all they are able (about as much as is in an empty #10 can) they are done.
The best way to handle them is to fill several cans or pouches with food, then open the bag of absorbers and remove as many as the cans you have ready. Close the bag of absorbers with a bag sealing clip, also sold at the storage center. Put one absorber in each can or pouch, and seal them. That way they will be able to do their job without more oxygen entering to take the place of what the absorber removes. Work fairly quickly, being cognizant of how long your absorbers are exposed to air, and be sure you remember to put the bag sealer clip on so that all the absorbers don't get ruined.
